A massive fire broke out at a Lincoln business on Cornhusker Highway, prompting authorities to close parts of the road on Monday. The fire was reported near North 23rd Street and Cornhusker Highway at 2:35 p.m., and Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) responded to the scene after receiving a report of an explosion and a car fire at Lincoln Cars.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke billowing from the building, which was being fueled by southwest winds blowing through open garage doors. The intensity of the fire prevented firefighters from immediately entering the building, leading to several parts of the structure collapsing, including the roof and west wall. Another nearby business sustained smoke and heat damage. Fortunately, no individuals were injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, with damages estimated at $500,000 to the building and $150,000 to its contents. Due to safety concerns from collapse and other hazards, the building is currently deemed unsafe. Cornhusker Highway has reopened to traffic in both directions, with an overnight lane closure in place. Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the area to ensure crew safety.
