On Monday afternoon, an odor of something burning was detected in the Franklin Science Center, prompting an evacuation. At 3:24 p.m., SU News sent a mass email to inform the campus community about the situation. Emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department and SUPD, along with university facilities, responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m.
Authorities determined that the building was safe to reopen by 3:15 p.m., but they stayed on site to investigate the cause of the smell. Facilities personnel were seen inspecting the ceiling of Franklin Science Center room 108, which was suspected to be the source of the odor. The SU facilities team continued to examine the area after the building was reopened.
