Minister Wissing of the FDP has emphasized the importance of working within the traffic light coalition and addressing societal challenges through compromise and cooperation. He cautioned against oversimplifying complex issues by dismissing the coalition as “stupid.” The FDP’s discussions about economic turnaround resolutions at their party conference should not be interpreted as preparation to exit the coalition, said Wissing. Instead, he highlighted the significance of staying true to the party’s values and beliefs while also considering the broader impact on society.

Wissing clarified that other parties, such as the SPD and Greens, also make demands that may not align with the FDP’s views. The FDP has faced criticism from these parties for proposing cuts to the welfare state in their economic turnaround plans. However, Wissing emphasized that democracy thrives on compromise and the ability to reach a majority to address social conflicts.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder viewed Wissing’s paper as a sign of potential coalition dissolution. Nevertheless, Wissing reassured his party members that they must stay focused on their vision for a social market economy. At their upcoming party conference, key proposals for economic reforms will be discussed with an emphasis on this vision.
