Ericsson North America president and CEO Yossi Cohen emphasized the importance of secure, reliable, and resilient 5G infrastructure in connecting individuals, businesses, and national security. He expressed excitement about building on existing projects with the US government, particularly the Department of Defense, where Ericsson is involved in multiple 5G prototype deployments. This technology is crucial for US national and economic security as well as for modernizing defense programs.

Furthermore, Cohen announced that Ericsson will be expanding its new business into other government agencies through the formation of Ericsson Federal Technologies Group (EFTG). The group will be led by Christopher Ling, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in government and military contracting, particularly in intelligence. Ling expressed his enthusiasm for joining Ericsson and highlighted the company’s long history of connecting the US and its expertise in resilience, connectivity, and security.

In addition to this new venture into government agencies, Ericsson signed a significant Open RAN deal with AT&T in the fourth quarter of 2023 despite a slight dip in year-on-year sales due to reduced demand from US wireless carriers. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing 5G technology in North America and its determination to remain at the forefront of the industry.
