Avila-Bront’s passion for science was ignited at a young age by her scientist father, who took her on trips to museums and introduced her to the wonders of the natural world. On her fifth birthday, she learned about Marie Curie and this sparked a lifelong interest in chemistry. Despite facing doubts and questions from others, Avila-Bront remained determined to pursue her love for science.

Avila-Bront believes that confidence in oneself is essential for making significant contributions in any field. She has observed greater cooperation between genders and a more welcoming environment for women in science, but acknowledges that there is still work to be done in promoting gender diversity in leadership positions and at top research universities.

Despite the fact that men still dominate STEM fields, Avila-Bront remains optimistic about the future of female representation in the scientific community. She has seen more women pursuing careers in science and believes that efforts being made now will lead to a more balanced and inclusive scientific community in the years to come.
