The Science Museum of Virginia (SMV) in Richmond is dedicated to making science accessible to all families. To achieve this, the museum has introduced library passes for families in Richmond, Powhatan, Petersburg, and Williamsburg. These bright orange, plastic family passes can be borrowed from local libraries and are good for two adults and four children from the same family.

The passes are designed and built by SMV employees using a 3D printer in their makerspace called The Forge. The museum is also part of the nationwide initiative Museums For All, which offers free or reduced admission depending on the museum. Families who are eligible for the program can purchase a $25 membership to the museum.

The goal of these library passes is to provide more families with opportunities to experience and fall in love with the museum. SMV is committed to putting science in the hands of all Virginians and providing equal access to their resources.
