The Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) organized an AI Conference, with Delhi High Court Judge Justice Rajiv Shakdher delivering the keynote address. Justice Shakdher emphasized the importance of approaching technology with caution while not giving up on its potential benefits. He highlighted the dual nature of technology, which has both strengths and weaknesses similar to human beings, as illustrated by the Mata Case, the first case of AI hallucinations.

Justice Shakdher urged lawyers to equip themselves with sufficient knowledge about technology in order to ask the right questions and consider how it could assist them without taking away their power of critical thinking. He advocated for the establishment of a framework to regulate the use of technology in a controlled environment.

Justice Prathiba M Singh delivered a keynote address at the conference, highlighting the necessity for legal reforms to encompass the regulation of AI-related technologies. She warned that without such reforms, existing laws could become obsolete in the face of advancing technology. Justice Singh pointed out that AI’s accuracy and reliability are still in a grey area and that it cannot replace human intelligence or the human element in the adjudicatory process.

The AI Conference by SILF featured participation from 12 national and international law firms and 44 speakers from various domains, including legal, tech, industry, and policy experts. The conference aimed to address the challenges and opportunities presented by AI technology in the legal field under President Dr. Lalit Bhasin’s leadership.
