Aaron LaBerge, who has been with Disney Entertainment and ESPN for more than 20 years, has announced his departure from the company. In an internal memo to staff, LaBerge cited personal reasons for his decision and assured a smooth transition process until the end of June to ensure continued success for the team and leadership. Despite his departure, LaBerge expressed confidence in the team’s ability to navigate the change seamlessly.

LaBerge will be joining PENN Entertainment in June for a new role involving ESPN’s online sportsbook. He emphasized his excitement for the opportunity to contribute to the company’s success from a different perspective while also being present for his family. Disney’s Executive Vice President of Content Operations, Chris Lawson, will temporarily assume LaBerge’s responsibilities until a permanent replacement is determined.

Disney Entertainment co-chairs Alan Bergman and Dana Walden, along with ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, thanked LaBerge for his contributions and leadership during his tenure. They noted his ongoing partnership with Disney through his new role at PENN Entertainment and expressed confidence in Lawson’s ability to maintain the momentum of the company. The transition marks the departure of another veteran executive following a series of high-profile exits in recent years.

As they prepare for their next chapter at PENN Entertainment, LaBerge and Lawson are collaborating during the transition period to ensure a bright future for Disney’s media businesses. With more developments expected in the near future, both executives are excited about what lies ahead and look forward to contributing their skills and expertise to help achieve continued success.
