As the 20th century dawned, the estate had grown to a massive 3,961 hectares. The property boasts an impressive list of amenities, with 100 rooms spread across three floors, three elevators, 17 themed bedroom suites and five salons. The compound also houses a beauty parlor, hammam and staff quarters with stables for 50 horses.

After Edmond’s passing, the home was inherited by various members of the Rothschild family before being sold to the King of Morocco in the 1980s. In recent years, the property has changed hands several times but has never been utilized.

In 2008, it was purchased by an owner from the Middle East, who plans to sell it through Whisper Auctions. Ignace Meuwissen, cofounder of Whisper Auctions told Mansion Global that the home will likely change hands behind closed doors. Meuwissen also revealed that there is already interest from potential buyers, with one from East Europe, three from Asia and one from Mongolia expressing interest in purchasing the property.

With an asking price of over $24 million and Château Louis XIV currently believed to be the most expensive house in the world after selling for just under $250 million in 2015, if Château d’Armainvilliers goes for anywhere near its reported asking price, it will easily claim the crown as the most expensive house in the world.
