In April, a series of bank robberies occurred in the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian armed groups including one claiming to be Hamas stealing approximately 66 million euros. The Bank of Palestine provided this information to the French newspaper Le Monde.

One of the robberies took place on April 16 when individuals entered the main bank branch in Gaza City through a hole in the ceiling and made off with safes containing about 2.8 million euros. The following day, they returned to the bank and detonated three safes containing around 29 million euros. Two days later, the total amount stolen by the robbers reached 33.6 million euros.

These incidents have brought attention to a significant security concern in the Gaza Strip as armed groups continue to engage in criminal activities such as bank robberies. The Bank of Palestine is now taking steps to address the vulnerabilities that allowed these robberies to occur and ensure the safety of their assets and personnel in the future.
