Canada’s skip Brad Gushue has improved his record to 3-0 at the world men’s curling championship with a hard-fought 8-4 victory over defending champion Bruce Mouat of Scotland. The game was a rematch of the 2023 final, and this win now puts Canada ahead of Scotland in any potential tiebreakers.
Gushue acknowledged the importance of securing victories against top teams early in the competition, as they are likely to be contenders at the end of the week. Taking an early 4-1 lead through five ends, Gushue’s team faced a push from Mouat’s Scottish rink. Despite allowing a few missed shots that enabled Mouat to score two points in the eighth end, Gushue felt that his team had control over the game.
In response to Mouat’s push, Gushue was able to score two points in the ninth end to secure the victory before Mouat conceded the game. With this win, Canada currently sits at the top of the standings alongside Sweden’s Niklas Edin, both with perfect records of 3-0. Gushue and his team are set to face Italy’s Joel Retornaz, the top-ranked team in the world, in their next match on Monday.
