In a pre-trial motion, Wexford Health Sources Inc. faced a setback regarding a former employee’s claim of sexual harassment related to her work attire. The US District Court for the Central District of Illinois ruled that the prison setting and dress code regulations did not dismiss the mental health professional’s claims of a hostile work environment.

The court found that despite the regulations set by the Illinois Department of Corrections and Wexford’s own guidelines for employees at IDOC facilities, the attention the employee received for her attire could still constitute sexual harassment. This decision highlights the importance of creating a safe and respectful work environment for all employees, even in unique settings like prisons.

This ruling serves as a reminder to businesses that they must carefully consider how their policies and practices may impact employees and be prepared to address any potential issues related to harassment or discrimination. Companies should strive to create inclusive workplaces where all employees feel respected and supported.
