Major League Baseball is currently facing a betting scandal, although it does not involve baseball games. On the other hand, the National Basketball Association is investigating a potential betting scandal that does involve betting on basketball. According to ESPN.com, the NBA is looking into Raptors forward Jontay Porter after multiple instances of betting irregularities. Specifically, the league is investigating prop bets involving Porter from games played on January 26 and March 20.

During the January 26 game against the Clippers, Porter left the game due to an eye injury and there was an increase in bets on the under for his points, rebounds, assists, and three-pointer props. His under hit in each category. Similarly, on March 20, Porter left a game against the Kings with an illness after only three minutes. Once again, the under hit on his various props. An unnamed source from a sportsbook told ESPN.com that people were trying to bet on Porter props during the game against the Clippers.

The NFL faced a similar issue during the 2023 season when Falcons running back Bijan Robinson barely played in a game against the Buccaneers due to an illness. The Falcons were fined $75,000 and former Falcons coach Arthur Smith was fined $25,000 for their role in facilitating illegal gambling activity through their players’ injuries and absences. This situation could be just the beginning of a larger issue that may lead to widespread federal regulation of professional and college sports as more states legalize sports betting.

This incident highlights how individual players can have significant influence on their individual props and how these irregularities can impact both games and bets placed on them. It also brings up concerns about player integrity and whether or not they are using their influence for personal gain or to manipulate outcomes for financial gain.

It is crucial for all professional sports organizations to maintain strict protocols for player safety and prevent any form of illegal gambling activity within their teams or players.

In conclusion, while Major League Baseball may not have any involvement in this scenario directly related to baseball games but it still has responsibility towards its fans who rely on fairness and transparency in sports events.
