The United States House has approved a legislative package of US$95 billion in economic aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. This was made possible by a change in position by the Republican Party, who had previously been skeptical about supporting Ukraine. President Joe Biden had requested the funding in October due to a shortage of military products from Ukraine.

In addition to humanitarian aid, a national security bill was passed that includes a provision to force the sale of the TikTok platform. The package will now go to the Senate for approval, with Biden promising to sign it immediately. This approval was celebrated by legislators, protesters, and representatives of the beneficiary countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the aid and said it would save thousands of lives. He awaits Senate approval before using it to strengthen his country’s defense against Russia. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz highlighted the bipartisan support for the aid package and hopes for its swift approval by the Senate. NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg also praised the aid package for Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of supporting its defense efforts against Russia.
