The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) had classified the bill as anti-business after opposition from the business industry. Despite this, the bill had initially passed easily through a House committee, with Rep. Mike Echols, a Republican from Monroe, leading the charge.
Echols believed that businesses should take on some responsibility when making vaccines mandatory. However, after facing opposition from LABI and others, support for the bill began to decline. In the end, it failed to pass in the full House by just two votes short of approval.
Despite this setback, there is still a possibility that the bill could be reintroduced later in the session for further consideration. LABI argued that holding schools and employers accountable for injuries resulting from required vaccines would be unfair to businesses and could have negative consequences on employment and economic growth in Louisiana.
