The deciding goal was scored by Danielle Serdachny with just one second remaining on a power play after the U.S. was penalized for having too many skaters on the ice. This marked Canada’s reclamation of the world title after the U.S.’s victory in 2023.

The game was marked by intense action, with both teams exchanging goals within three minutes of each other throughout regulation time, resulting in a total of four occasions. This was the highest-scoring game between these rivals since their meeting in the 2015 World Championship final when the U.S. won 7-5 over Canada. Over the past 13 finals between these nations, only one goal has separated them, with eight of those games going to overtime.
