The World Future Energy Summit, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), concluded on Thursday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. This annual forum brings together experts in sustainability, energy, transportation, and urban planning to discuss future plans and solutions in the fields of electric mobility and smart cities.

The final day of the summit focused on electric mobility and smart cities, with extended working hours due to favorable weather conditions. Sessions at the Electric Mobility Forum discussed preparations for the adoption of autonomous transportation, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between stakeholders in the green transportation sector. The UAE’s efforts to increase the sales of new energy vehicles to 50% by 2030 were highlighted.

Speakers, such as Naveen Ahmed from Pakistan and Chris Wan from Masdar City, shared insights on prioritizing electric vehicles to mitigate pollution and the importance of sustainable urban planning. The summit also announced a new project in clean energy and climate action in cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

In addition to discussions on electric mobility and smart cities, startup companies showcased products and solutions focused on sustainability in the Masdar Innovation Zone. Discussions at this zone centered on fulfilling COP28 pledges and partnerships to support renewable energy sources. Lynn Al-Sibai, General Manager of RX Middle East and Chair of the World Future Energy Summit, highlighted the increase in international participation compared to previous years.

One exciting development was also unveiled at this year’s summit: a new initiative called “Clix” that supports women-led startup companies in their growth journey by showcasing their products and solutions at dedicated areas within Climate Innovation Exchange Forum (Clix). Susan Payne from Sustainable Plant expressed her enthusiasm for participating in this initiative as it aligns with her company’s mission towards promoting sustainable living through innovation.

Overall, it was an inspiring event where experts from different sectors came together to share knowledge about future plans for electric mobility and smart cities while fostering collaboration between stakeholders for a more sustainable future.
