The Egyptian government has announced the start of the wheat marketing season for the 2024 harvest. This season will run from April 15th to August 15th, and local producers are encouraged to supply wheat to the General Authority for Supply Commodities at specific prices.

Wheat will be marketed to various entities such as the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage, the General Company for Silos and Storage, milling companies under the Holding Company for Food Industries, and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt. These entities will be responsible for receiving wheat from suppliers who meet approved conditions and specifications set out by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.

The government has taken measures to ensure that all locally grown varieties of wheat meet quality standards before being purchased. To this end, there will be committees formed at wheat receiving and storage sites comprised of representatives from various government agencies. These committees will oversee the inspection and grading of wheat before it is accepted for purchase.

During this marketing season, there are prohibitions on transporting wheat without permits or causing payment delays to farmers. Additionally, certain industries are prohibited from using local wheat without permission from the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. Any violations of these regulations will result in penalties specified under Egyptian law, with seized quantities being delivered to storage sites and violating facilities being closed administratively.

Overall, the government is taking steps to ensure a smooth supply and distribution of locally produced wheat during the 2024 marketing season.
