Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Valtonen believes that Europe could do more to help the country, which is currently facing a dire situation. With dwindling ammunition and troops, Ukraine has lost Avdijvka in February and is now threatened by the strategically important Chasiv Yar. US Forces Europe Commander and NATO Supreme Military Commander Christopher G. Cabbages recently stated that without help, Ukraine is losing the war. Valtonen questions if Europe still believes in Ukraine’s chance to win.

Valtonen acknowledges the terrible situation but also points out that just over two years ago, many thought Kyiv would fall in a few days. Now, Ukraine needs support to turn the situation in its favor, which could come from either the United States or Europe. Valtonen appreciates initiatives like the Czech ammunition purchase and President Macron’s aid efforts.

Germany’s hesitation to provide weapons stems from internal political discussions, but Valtonen emphasizes the country’s substantial financial support for Ukraine. He describes Finland’s support for Ukraine as significant and highlights the country’s aid packages and security commitments.

Valtonen stresses the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine in all European discussions and forums. While some suggest potential solutions involving territorial concessions, Valtonen and Ukraine reject such ideas, citing the lack of trust in Russia.

Valtonen recalls the Euromaidan protests as a demonstration of Ukraine’s fight for independence and freedom, urging Europe not to abandon the country now.

Overall, Valtonnen calls on Europe to do more to assist Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
