José Andrés, a renowned chef and philanthropist, mourned the loss of several members of his World Central Kitchen nonprofit organization in Gaza on Monday. He took to Twitter to share the heartbreaking news and express his deepest condolences to their families, friends, and the entire WCK family.

According to reports from the Associated Press, an Israeli airstrike resulted in the tragic deaths of four international aid workers with World Central Kitchen and their Palestinian driver. The organization strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that humanitarian aid workers and civilians should never be targeted.

World Central Kitchen was founded in 2010 by José Andrés with the mission of preparing and distributing meals to those in need during social and environmental crises. The nonprofit was featured in the 2022 National Geographic documentary “We Feed People,” directed by Ron Howard, highlighting the importance of food as a critical resource during emergencies.

In an interview with Variety, Andrés underscored the necessity of food for humans, especially during critical times like the ongoing situation in Gaza. The region has been facing violence and bombings since October 7th, following terrorist attacks and hostilities by Hamas which led to a conflict with Israel.

The devastating loss of World Central Kitchen members serves as a stark reminder of the risks that aid workers face when working in conflict zones around the world. José Andrés continues to advocate for feeding the hungry and providing relief in times of crisis.
