The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has announced that the emirate welcomed over 1.5 million hotel guests in 2023, marking an 11% increase from the previous year. This growth underscores the sustainable development of tourism in Sharjah and positions the emirate as a leading tourist destination.

During a press conference at the Arabian Travel Market 2024 in Dubai, the Authority revealed details of key components of the tourism sector in Sharjah. They unveiled information about projects such as the Al Badayer Development and Organization project and the Mleiha National Park, which aim to enhance Sharjah’s tourism offerings and accommodate more guests. Other initiatives like the Kalba Hanging Gardens and Al Hafiya Lake also contribute to this goal.

The Authority emphasized Sharjah’s position as a preferred tourist destination, with over 100 hotels offering more than 10,000 rooms. They continue to work on developing services and facilities to support anticipated growth in guest numbers. The emirate’s commitment to opening world-class tourism projects demonstrates its dedication to sustainable growth in the sector.

In 2023, Sharjah saw significant increases in guests from Gulf Cooperation Council countries such as Oman and Saudi Arabia, contributing to overall growth. Khaled Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, highlighted the positive impact of tourism on Sharjah’s economy and job market while stressing the importance of sustainable development and innovation for enhancing competitiveness globally.

At the exhibition, visitors could explore virtual tours of different environments through interactive experiences showcasing Sharjah’s diverse cultural and natural assets at the Sharjah Pavilion. This immersive showcase aimed to highlight not only what makes Sharjah unique but also its rich offerings for tourists.

Overall, these developments underscore how important it is for destinations like Sharjah to continuously adapt to meet growing demands from visitors while prioritizing sustainability for long-term success in their respective industries.
