On April 8th, the sun and moon will come together for a spectacular Solar Eclipse Event at CSC from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Guests can enjoy free activities on the lawn, while exploring the planetarium/aquarium building for a reduced admission price of $5 per person, with members getting in for free.

The upcoming Eclipse on April 8th will be the last Total Solar Eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044. During this event, the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth at just the right moment, creating a breathtaking sight. The first contact occurs at 1:53 PM when the Moon overlaps the edge of the sun, creating a crescent shape. The eclipse reaches its maximum point at 3:11 PM in Hickory when the Moon covers the entire surface of the Sun, causing the sky to darken and a drop in temperature. Shadow Bands and Baily’s Beads may also be visible during this phase.
