On Friday, the Slovenian state highway management company, DARS, issued a public appeal to the Ministry of Public Administration. The appeal requested that public administration employees work from home as much as possible during May in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion on the roads during peak days. This was the first time DARS had made such an appeal.

DARS warned the Ministry that traffic jams were expected to begin on Slovenian roads during the May Day holidays, with both tourists and daily commuters contributing to congestion. The main focus of this appeal was reducing traffic in Ljubljana, which experiences the highest volume of traffic. DARS believed that by allowing public administration employees to work from home, it would improve traffic flow in the city.

The Ministry received specific dates from DARS regarding when road conditions were expected to be at their worst. However, according to unofficial reports, the Ministry did not plan to comply with DARS’ appeal. Meanwhile, the Koper Police Department issued a warning about increased traffic during the May Day holidays both towards tourist centers and back into Slovenia’s interior regions.
