A group of Timberline School students recently returned from competing in the National Science Bowl, which took place in the Washington, D.C. area. The team earned their spot in the competition by winning at the regional level earlier in the school year. The team consisted of eight 8th-grade students: Krish Joshi, Neil Nallabirudu, Ishani Atluri, Adwaiyth Muthuranam, and Evan Midtlyng.
The students dedicated months to preparing for the tournament. Ishani Atluri spoke about the rigorous study schedule required for such a broad competition and emphasized the importance of hard work and effort’s direct correlation with results. Julie Stevens, the team’s coach, shared that despite finishing with four wins and four losses, they were ultimately victorious against teams from Alaska, New York, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Stevens was incredibly proud of her team’s determination and teamwork but acknowledged that they had lost some matches as well. She noted that the students were self-motivated and eager to continue improving their skills to compete in high school division in future competitions. Neil Nallabirudu and Krish Joshi mentioned how much fun they had during the competition and how enjoyable it was to meet new people.
Apart from competing, the students also got an opportunity to explore Washington D.C., where they visited historical sites such as Ford’s Theater, Lincoln Memorial
