CeeDee Lamb, the Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver who was chosen 17th overall in the 2020 NFL draft, is approaching the final year of his rookie contract and unsure of what his offseason will look like without an extension. According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Lamb may skip voluntary work and hold out of mandatory work if he doesn’t receive the contract he desires.

If Lamb chooses not to receive a new deal, a “hold in” situation may occur once mandatory work begins. In this scenario, Lamb would show up but choose not to participate in practices or any activities that could result in an injury. This strategy has been employed by other players in the past to negotiate new contracts without facing fines for holding out during minicamp or training camp.

Lamb had an impressive 2023 season, leading the league in catches with 135 and achieving career highs in both yards (1,749) and touchdowns (12). With his value at its peak, Lamb intends to use his leverage to secure the long-term contract he desires.
