The 150th Kentucky Derby on Saturday saw a unique meeting between world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson and Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B in a video that premiered during NBC Sports’ coverage of the event. In the spot, Richardson and Cardi B got their nails done together, discussed Richardson’s training regimen and shared their love for Paris, which is set to host the Olympics from July 26.

Richardson, at just 24 years old, won the 2023 World 100m title in a personal-best time of 10.65 seconds. This made her the favorite for the Paris Olympic 100m final on August 3rd. Only four women have ever run faster than Richardson’s time, and she is determined to continue her success in this event.

Before she can compete in Paris, Richardson must first make the team at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials from June 21st to June 30th in Eugene, Oregon. The top three women in the 100m will qualify for the individual event in Paris, while likely the top six will go for the 4x100m relay as well. Richardson is also a contender for another gold medal at these games as she finished third in the world championships for both men’s and women’s groups last year (2nd place).

In preparation for these trials, Richardson will race at several meetups like Pre Classic on May 25th at Eugene’s Hayward Field stadium where NBC Sports and Peacock will be airing live coverage of this prestigious annual international track meet held within US soil. This event serves as an opportunity to see how far Richardson has come since winning her first gold medal last summer and what it takes to compete against some of the best athletes in the world today.
