Tampa General Hospital, Feeding Tampa Bay and Tampa Well have teamed up to create a food pharmacy in Tampa, FL. This initiative aims to provide individuals with serious medical conditions with access to fresh and healthy food at no cost. Herman Dallas, who recently discovered the program, is thrilled about it. He explains that before he found the food pharmacy, his diet consisted of unhealthy foods that lacked essential nutrients.

As Dallas’ health deteriorated and reached a critical point when he lost his kidneys, he realized the importance of making dietary changes. Jenise Carr, who manages the food pharmacy, has a background in organic farming and emphasizes the nutritional value of fresh fruits and vegetables. Since joining the program a year ago and adopting a healthier diet post-transplant, Dallas has noticed significant improvements in his energy levels and skin texture.

Dallas now has his own garden at home and expresses his gratitude for the positive impact that the food pharmacy has had on his life and family. The program not only provides fresh produce from on-site gardens but also receives additional supplies from Feeding Tampa Bay. The ultimate goal is to educate individuals about the importance of nutritious foods and provide them with the tools to make healthier choices.
