In Xiamen, China, Mondo Duplantis set a new world record in the pole vault with a remarkable 6.24m performance during the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season opener. The 24-year-old Olympic and world champion from Sweden cleared the bar on his first attempt, surpassing his own record of 6.17m that he had set in Torun in 2020.

Expressing his excitement about competing in China for the first time, Duplantis noted that he was looking forward to starting his season strong after winning the world indoor title in Glasgow with a clearance of 6.10m. With more than three months left before he defends his Olympic title in Paris, Duplantis’s early season success bodes well for his upcoming competitions.

This latest performance marks the eighth world record of Duplantis’s career, including a six-meter clearance at the Doha Diamond League meeting in 2022. As always, the record-setting jump is subject to the usual ratification procedure.
