Recently, a 58-year-old man named Mr. Liem experienced abdominal discomfort and was diagnosed with early-stage rectal cancer after a general examination by an endoscopy doctor. The results of various tests at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City revealed a small lesion in his rectum, as well as several polyps in his colon.

Dr. Do Minh Hung, the Director of the Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Surgery, recommended that Mr. Liem undergo surgery to remove the cancerous tumor in order to prevent its progression. The surgery involved removing the rectal tumor using a non-invasive laparoscopic technique, along with three colorectal polyps through endoscopy.

Fortunately, the early detection and removal of these lesions helped Mr. Liem avoid the risk of his cancer progressing. Dr. Hung emphasized the importance of regular health checks and gastrointestinal endoscopies, especially for high-risk individuals over 45 years old or with a history of colon polyps, among other risk factors.

After the surgery, Mr. Liem was able to resume normal activities and was discharged from the hospital after five days. Follow-up appointments and monitoring will be necessary to track the progression of the disease and ensure his continued health.

Dr. Hung noted that colorectal cancer is a common and potentially deadly disease, but when caught early, the survival rate is high. He encouraged individuals with symptoms of digestive issues or other concerning symptoms to seek immediate medical attention in order to receive timely treatment and care. Regular health checks and screenings are key to early detection and successful treatment of colorectal cancer.

Mr. Liem’s story serves as a reminder that regular health checks can make all the difference when it comes to detecting diseases like colorectal cancer early on
