Central Michigan University Research Corp. (CMURC) is once again seeking applications from Black entrepreneurs in the Saginaw area for its Lift ME program. This business accelerator program aims to promote Black-owned businesses and increase representation in the business community.

Lift ME has been successful in supporting small businesses with measurable goals, providing them with the support and guidance they need to grow and thrive. Previous participants in the program include Delicious Sweets Bakeshop, Kakes The Great Popcorn Co., and Shangri’La Candle Co., all of which have seen significant growth as a result of their involvement in Lift ME.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must self-identify as Black and own a for-profit business that is based or operating in Saginaw. Eligible businesses cannot be franchises or associated with national chains. Applications are limited to one week, closing at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. CMURC will announce the new cohort of participants on Monday, April 22, with a kick-off meeting scheduled for Monday, April 29. Selected participants will receive free participation in the program.

Participants in Lift ME will join an all-Black cohort of business owners at CMURC, which is designed to provide support and guidance to small businesses with measurable goals. The program includes weekly workshops with peer discussions to foster community connections, skill development, and collaboration with fellow participants. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with local business owners and community members, receive business promotion across various sectors in the CMURC membership ecosystem, and access technical assistance to further the growth of Black-owned businesses.
