In the spirit of spring renewal, Austin, Texas is kicking off National Public Health Week. This week-long celebration honors the tireless work of public health professionals who have worked to restore normalcy to our community after a pandemic. As we gather for festivals, events and other public health services, let us take a moment to appreciate the efforts that keep our community healthy so we can enjoy the simple things in life.

National Public Health Week is an opportunity for us to recognize the many ways that public health impacts our daily lives. From ensuring children have access to vaccines, to inspecting restaurants for safety measures, to providing support for new mothers, there are countless efforts happening every day to create a healthier community for everyone. Director Adrienne Sturrup emphasizes the importance of these efforts and encourages everyone to prioritize their health needs, especially after the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

To mark the beginning of National Public Health Week, Austin Public Health has released a video showcasing over a dozen of their programs. Dr. Desmar Walkes, the Austin-Travis County Health Authority, urges individuals to not neglect their health needs and invites everyone to explore the wide range of services offered by APH and their community partners. Whether it’s diabetes care, STI testing, support for mothers and children or any other health service, APH is here to help.
