In recent months, high-profile aerospace and defense contractor Lockheed Martin, semiconductor company Coherent, and tech company Hinge Health have announced job cuts in the Bay Area. These cutbacks will result in the loss of more than 200 positions across the region.

Lockheed Martin is cutting 68 positions in Sunnyvale and Palo Alto, while Coherent is eliminating 61 jobs in Santa Clara on June 10. Hinge Health is slashing 77 positions in San Francisco on June 11. All three companies have described these job cuts as permanent.

The total number of tech industry layoffs in the Bay Area for April stands at 949, with Apple accounting for 614 of those cuts in Santa Clara. This exceeds the 352 job cuts reported by tech companies in March. However, the total number of layoffs in April and March are lower compared to the figures for January and February.

Since January, over 38,800 jobs have been eliminated by tech companies in the Bay Area, highlighting an ongoing workforce reduction trend in the region’s tech sector.
