In April 2024, during the 2024 Space Symposium held in Colorado Springs from April 8 to 11, a non-profit organization that recognizes exceptional developments in space technology presented Sangi Co., Ltd with a prestigious award. The honor was bestowed upon their remineralizing toothpaste, which has been inducted into the U.S. Space Technology Hall of Fame. This innovative product, inspired by NASA technology and featuring Medical Hydroxyapatite to prevent tooth decay, marks a significant milestone for Sangi and the oral care industry as a whole.

As the first Japanese company to receive this recognition, Sangi is known for their high-performance whitening toothpaste brand, APAGARD®, and the long-standing medicated toothpaste, APADENT®. Shuji Sakuma, the founder and current chairman of Sangi, drew inspiration from NASA’s Electronics Research Center to incorporate hydroxyapatite into toothpaste. NASA’s technology was designed to prevent mineral loss in astronauts in a gravity-free environment by producing hydroxyapatite through a chemical reaction in the mouth.

This incredible achievement underscores Sangi’s commitment to innovation and product development. It highlights their dedication to creating oral care products that are both effective and cutting-edge. By infusing NASA technology into their toothpaste, Sangi has proven themselves as leaders in the oral care industry.

The recognition from the U.S. Space Technology Hall of Fame is a testament to their groundbreaking approach to dental health. As they continue to push boundaries and innovate within the industry, it is clear that Sangi will remain at the forefront of oral care for years to come.
