Norwegian wind energy industry is about to revolutionize with WindSpider, a company that has designed a new self-erecting crane system. This innovative crane allows for direct installation, maintenance, repowering, and decommissioning of bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind turbines. With a lifting capacity that can be scaled to over 1,500 tons and no height limitations, this system makes operations possible directly on floating turbines at sea.
WindSpider has received funding from various investors including Innovasjon Norge, IKM, IK Group, Advanced Control, Breivik Group AS, and DNV. An additional investment from Leirvik Group AS allowed WindSpider to begin building the first actual WindSpider unit. Both companies are optimistic about the partnership, with WindSpider’s Chairman of the Board highlighting the strengths and synergies between the two companies.
Leirvik Group AS believes in WindSpider’s system and sees great synergies with the company. They are confident that building the WindSpider system in aluminum will leverage their extensive experience and knowledge related to large constructions in aluminum. The collaboration between these two companies is expected to further propel Norway’s position as a leader in wind energy development. The world’s largest offshore floating wind farm is already operational in Norway, and this partnership is set to take it even further into the future of wind energy technology.
