The U.S. Census Bureau has recently launched the Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES), a new initiative aimed at providing crucial data on economic activity. Around 370,000 businesses have been notified to respond to the survey, which will offer comprehensive national and subnational information on business revenues, expenses, and assets on an annual basis.

To streamline data collection and reduce respondent burden, the AIES consolidates content from seven existing economic surveys, including the Annual Capital Expenditures Survey, Annual Retail Trade Survey, Annual Survey of Manufacturers, Annual Wholesale Trade Survey, Manufacturers’ Unfilled Orders Survey, Service Annual Survey, and Report of Organization. More details on these surveys and the innovations introduced by the AIES can be found in the blog “Integrating Our Business Statistics for an Ever-Changing U.S. Economy.”

The deadline for submitting responses is April 30, 2024, with the first release of data scheduled for summer 2025. Additional information on the new survey can be accessed on the AIES website. There is no news release associated with this announcement, only a tip sheet for reference.
