The Premier League has upheld the four-point deduction given to Nottingham Forest for breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules. The club had hoped to overturn the ruling from an independent commission, but their appeal was rejected by an Appeal Board.
Nottingham Forest had argued that the commission made errors in not considering a player’s sale as a mitigating factor and in not suspending some or all of the points deduction. However, the Appeal Board disagreed with these arguments and determined that the independent Commission was justified in immediately imposing the four-point deduction.
The Appeal Board, chaired by Rt Hon Lord Dyson, also included David Phillips KC and Daniel Alexander KC, who were appointed by the independent Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel. The full written reasons for their decision can be found on the Premier League’s website.
As a result of this decision, Nottingham Forest will remain on 29 points, three points above the relegation zone with two games left to play.
