In the midst of a heated debate over economic policies and immigration strategies, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced off against Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer during this week’s Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons. The session came on the heels of new inflation figures that showed a slight decrease to 3.4% in February, which was a smaller drop than economists had anticipated.

Despite the ongoing cost of living concerns, Sunak used the latest inflation figures as evidence that the government should continue with its plan to bring about a brighter future for the country. However, Starmer challenged him on why he had not yet called for a general election. Additionally, Starmer criticized Sunak’s scheme to deport some asylum seekers to Rwanda as a “gimmick,” while Sunak accused Labour of not being interested in addressing illegal migration issues.

The controversial Rwanda deportation bill proposed by Sunak may face further delays, as peers have vowed to attempt further alterations to the legislation in the House of Lords. Tory MPs are set to raise their concerns with Sunak when he speaks before the influential 1922 committee at 17:00 GMT.

The ongoing disagreements between the government and opposition parties have become increasingly apparent during this session, highlighting different perspectives on how best to tackle various challenges facing the country today. As such, it is clear that different political parties have varying views on what steps should be taken moving forward.
