Joshie, a non-speaking son of Dan Harris from Peterborough, inspired his father to advocate for more accessibility to technology for individuals with special needs. Mr. Harris’s passion was sparked when he saw his son using a tablet to point to pictures for communication.
Last year, Mr. Harris successfully campaigned for funding for 100 picture boards in Peterborough to assist non-speaking individuals in communicating through images. He believes that investing in technology can have a significant impact on unlocking children’s potential and changing their lives. His son, Joshie, has been recognized internationally as an inspiration for non-speaking children.
At the Global Inclusive Schools’ Forum in Paris, Mr. Harris highlighted the need for technology to be more accessible to individuals with special needs. He received a lot of support at the event and emphasized that education is a fundamental human right. Mr. Harris expressed his gratitude for the interest in his cause and hopes to see the implementation of picture boards internationally. He stressed the importance of acting quickly to provide non-speaking individuals with the tools they need to communicate effectively. By investing in technology for these individuals, Mr. Harris believes that their potential can be fully realized, and their voices can be heard.
