Recently, the New England Patriots conducted workouts for three tight end candidates towards the end of last week. After evaluating the three candidates, they signed Mitchell Wilcox on Monday. In addition to Wilcox, Brycen Hopkins and Sean McKeon were also evaluated during the workouts.

Wilcox, who is 27 years old, previously spent four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals after joining them as an undrafted free agent. Over the past three seasons, he has participated in games for the Bengals. In 2023, Wilcox was present in all 17 games and made four starts, managing to secure nine receptions for a total of 56 yards. Throughout the season, he was on the field for 230 offensive snaps and 316 special teams snaps.

Initially starting his career on the practice squad and not getting any regular-season appearances in his rookie year, Wilcox has played a total of 48 games with nine starts in the last three seasons. He has accumulated 29 receptions for 211 yards and one touchdown so far in his career. Additionally, he has taken part in seven postseason games, recording two receptions for 29 yards.

Now that he has signed with the New England Patriots, Wilcox will be joining Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, and La’Michael Pettway in the tight end position on their roster.
