On Thursday evening, the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan became the site of a pro-Palestinian protest encampment. The day began with demonstrators storming into the on-campus museum at FIT on W. 27th St. and Seventh Ave., chanting “Free, free, free Palestine.”

Video footage showed a large group of protestors breaking through the doors and taking over the lobby of the museum. By early evening, around 60 protestors remained in the lobby, where they set up tents and a sign that read “FIT Gaza Solidarity Encampment.” An additional 20 protestors outside passed supplies like blankets, cardboard, and markers to those inside, while security guards prevented more people from entering the building.

Despite the situation, the NYPD had not yet responded to the college as of Thursday evening. The encampment inside the Fashion Institute of Technology was a visible display of support for Palestine, as protestors made their voices heard through their actions and chants.
