Austin-based Cavco Industries Inc., the parent company of Palm Harbor Homes, has been cited by OSHA for various safety violations following an investigation conducted in October 2023. The inspections were carried out as part of OSHA’s National Emphasis Program Site-Specific Targeting, which focuses on establishments with high rates of injury.

The safety violations included issues like lack of fall protection, improper ladder use, unsafe walking surfaces, overhead hazards, deficiencies in fire extinguisher inspections, absence of welding screens, and inadequate access to electrical shutoffs. Additionally, inspectors found more than a dozen health hazards, such as missing respiratory and hazard communication programs, inadequate personal protective equipment provision, and failure to assess silica exposure.

OSHA Area Director Monica Camacho expressed concern over the findings and Cavco Industries’ repeated violations. She noted that the company is not meeting its responsibility to maintain safe and healthy work environments for employees. Camacho emphasized that OSHA has specific standards for the manufacturing industry and provides resources for employers and employees to ensure safety.
