In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, NFL players Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints and Raheem Mostert of the Miami Dolphins joined forces to compete in a sport fishing tournament called “The Catch.” The tournament featured seven teams in a catch-and-release billfish competition. Kamara’s team, Rising Son’s/Team Verizon, along with professional angler Jaselyn Berthelot, took first place with a total of 500 points. They caught four sailfish, three tuna, and one mahi-mahi, with three of the sailfish caught simultaneously.
Berthelot described the experience of coaching Kamara and Mostert through a triple-sailfish hook-up as amazing and a first-time accomplishment for her. The team’s victory resulted in a $100,000 donation to their chosen charity, the Coast Guard Foundation, thanks to Harvey Gulf. The foundation supports active U.S. Coast Guard members, veterans, and their families through various investments that benefit families, boost morale, and honor the Coast Guard’s national mission.
Overall, the tournament was a success and brought together NFL players with a shared passion for sport fishing and giving back to the community. It was a unique opportunity for the players to showcase their skills on the water and support a great cause in the process.
