The Edgartown select board has recently approved Carlos Gomes Teles Filho’s liquor license application for his new restaurant in the former Sharky’s Cantina on Upper Main street. The new establishment, known as Seagrass Bar and Grill, is set to feature a sports bar and arcade games on the site of a Brazilian bakery.

During the board meeting, Mr. Teles discussed his plans to offer a menu consisting of pub food like burgers, pizza, and seafood at the new restaurant. However, he did not provide a specific opening date for Seagrass Bar and Grill. The renovation work at the location has been ongoing for several months following the closure of Sharky’s Cantina in 2022 due to lease issues.

In addition to his new venture, Mr. Teles also owns a landscaping company and two other dining establishments on Martha’s Vineyard – Square Rigger in Edgartown and Nina’s Dine and Dash in Vineyard Haven. Despite being unavailable for comment after the meeting, the new restaurant owner received positive feedback from the select board members who voted in favor of the establishment.

Board member Michael Donroma was absent from the meeting, but Margaret Serpa and Arthur Smadbeck both expressed their support for the new restaurant. Ms. Serpa commented on the revitalization of the space, expressing confidence in its success moving forward. Following
