TikTok and Universal Music Group (UMG) have reached a multidimensional licensing agreement that will allow users of the social network to use songs from popular artists like Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny in their videos once more. This agreement covers UMG artists, composers, and labels, reintroducing their music to the platform.

In a press release, Universal Music Group president and CEO Lucian Grainge emphasized the importance of this partnership in valuing music, human artistry, and the wellbeing of the creative community. The partnership will enable TikTok users to incorporate UMG’s song catalog into their content, featuring popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, and Drake.

Both TikTok and UMG have implemented new monetization strategies for artists as well as analytical tools and sales capabilities that will help them expand their global fan base by leveraging the platform’s reach. The agreement also addresses the challenges posed by AI in the music industry, including protections against unauthorized AI-generated music on TikTok.

TikTok CEO Shou Chew expressed satisfaction in finding a way forward with Universal Music Group. The two entities are currently working together to make UMG’s songs available for users of the platform in a timely manner.
