Dr. Clifford Cho, a pancreas and hepatobiliary surgeon and faculty member at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, has been appointed chief medical officer at University of Michigan Health-West in West Branch. Starting in May, he will oversee medical leadership at the facility and serve in clinical and mentorship capacities. Cho expressed his excitement for the opportunity to contribute to expanding world-class healthcare in West Michigan, with a focus on improving patient care and medical innovation in the community.

Before joining UM Health-West, Cho worked at Michigan Medicine, where he held leadership positions such as vice chair of surgical oncology and clinical care chief of cancer surgery. He also served as the initial executive medical director of the Cancer Network of West Michigan. His leadership and research accomplishments were praised by Dr. Ronald Grifka, president of UM Health-West, who stated that they have been crucial to the success of the statewide network.

Cho’s medical education includes attending medical school at Vanderbilt University and completing his general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. He finished a fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. UM Health-West is a 208-bed facility that treats over 61,000 emergency patients annually.
