Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has undergone successful surgery to treat a hernia at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem. The hospital’s director of general surgery, Alon Pikarsky, confirmed that Netanyahu is now in excellent health following the procedure. At 74 years old, Netanyahu was diagnosed with the hernia during a routine examination and underwent surgery under anesthesia.

While Netanyahu recovered from his operation, Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Yariv Levin took over leadership during ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Netanyahu expressed optimism about his quick return to work after the surgery and assured that he would recover successfully.

The surgery took place amidst talks between Israel and Hamas in Cairo aimed at securing the release of Israeli hostages held by the militant group in exchange for a ceasefire. This is Netanyahu’s second surgery since he returned to office in late 2022; he previously had a pacemaker operation last summer and had previously undergone hernia surgery in 2013.

A hernia occurs when there is a gap in the abdominal muscular wall, which allows something in the abdomen to protrude outward. The successful outcome of this latest operation marks another health setback for Netanyahu, who remains committed to his duties despite ongoing health concerns.
