Left-hander Tyler Jay of the Mets has been added to the 40-man roster, replacing pitcher Kodai Senga who was moved to the 60-day injured list due to a posterior capsule strain in his shoulder. Senga had been sidelined since late in spring training and is expected to return by May 27, after initially expecting a return in May or possibly June.

The decision to transfer Senga to the 60-day IL came as the Mets needed to make space for Jay on the roster. By making this move, the Mets were able to add Jay without risking the loss of another player. In order to accommodate Jay’s addition to the 26-man roster for his potential big league debut, right-hander Dedniel Nunez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

This series of moves reflects the team’s efforts to navigate roster changes and injuries as they continue their season. Despite this setback, manager Carlos Mendoza expressed optimism when Senga began playing catch on back-to-back days at the beginning of April, calling it a big step forward in his recovery. Following the promising progress, Senga has continued moving in the right direction and is hopeful that he will be back in action soon.
