Arpit Soni, a small business owner, is set to transform a vacant gas station on Orange Avenue in northeast Roanoke into a new convenience store and fuel center. The RaceWay that has been closed for at least six years will be given a new lease on life as Soni’s firm works diligently to renovate it. The project includes the installation of new underground fuel tanks, and the store is expected to open sometime during the upcoming winter.

Soni has not yet confirmed the brand that he has lined up for the new establishment. However, city records indicate that RaceWay ceased operations at least six years ago, with records dating back even further not being available. Sheetz has also submitted plans to build a new gas station and store on Franklin Road in southwest Roanoke County. This project requires the demolition of a closed Carter Bank & Trust branch and a former optical shop that are currently on the site.

The new Sheetz location is dated February 9, and National Optical, which previously occupied the Franklin Road address, has since relocated to the Promenade Park Shopping Center on Electric Road.
