The Israeli Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, and the ‘number two’ of the war cabinet, Benny Gantz, met with Antony Blinken, the Secretary of the United States Department of State, to discuss potential sanctions against Netzah Yehuda battalion for alleged crimes against human rights in the West Bank. Blinken discussed efforts to protect Israel’s security and negotiate for hostage release while increasing humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

The Israeli Army defended Netzah Yehuda’s work, emphasizing their courage and professionalism while adhering to international law. The IDF stated they do not recognize the proposed sanctions and will examine the issue once a decision is made by the US. Gallant highlighted Netzah Yehuda’s frontline role in fighting Hezbollah, terrorist groups in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza, emphasizing their dedication and sacrifice. He expressed hope that the US would reconsider imposing sanctions on them as it could tarnish Israel’s efforts to protect its citizens.

Gallant also warned of setting a dangerous precedent by penalizing a specific unit within Israel’s defense system. If imposed, these sanctions would prevent members of Netzah Yehuda from receiving military aid or training from the US Army. Blinken identified Netzah Yehuda as instigators of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. Discussions between US and Israeli officials continue as they work towards resolving this situation while upholding shared values of security and justice.
