The Israeli Army has seized control of the Palestinian part of the Rafah crossing, which is a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. This move comes after threats of a possible military offensive against the city, which is home to nearly 1.4 million Palestinians.

In response to the seizure of the Rafah crossing, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had initiated “targeted activity” in limited areas in eastern Rafah. The goal was to destroy terrorist infrastructure belonging to Hamas, which had been using the crossing for their objectives. The IDF reported that several terrorist targets were attacked and destroyed, resulting in the death of around 20 terrorists.

Three tunnels have been located in the area so far with no casualties among military personnel. However, tensions remain high as Israeli authorities continue their operations in eastern Rafah. Palestinians living in these areas have been urged to evacuate immediately by the IDF and Gaza Crossings and Borders Authority has confirmed the suspension of passenger traffic and humanitarian aid entry through Rafah crossings.

International organizations have warned about the potential humanitarian impact of an attack on this city where most residents are displaced from other parts of Gaza Strip. Additionally, Kerem Shalom crossing was also closed after an attack perpetrated by Hamas.

The situation remains tense as Israeli forces continue their operations in eastern Rafah, raising concerns about its impact on civilians living in these areas.
